LSU Tigers’ head baseball coach Jay Johnson updated the status of his star third baseman, Tommy White, following the 10-0 domination of Western Michigan on Friday. Following the game, Jay Johnson updated everyone on his status and said it’s doubtful that White will play in the Western Michigan game on Saturday. “I highly doubt he’s going to play tomorrow (sore shoulder). But I think we’re in a much better situation than it looked when it happened,” Johnson said. “I got on our trainer a little bit. He said, ‘He’s fine. We just had to pop his shoulder back in place,'” Johnson said of the injury. “I was like, ‘Well, you could’ve done that on the field, so I didn’t have to take him out of the game.”
According to firsthand accounts, White jammed his arm into the bag when sliding back. Trainers were holding his arm as he walked off the field. Trainers also popped the shoulder back into place after he dislocated it. Senior Jack Merrifield replaced him in the lineup.

White transferred to LSU this offseason after he had a monster year last season as a freshman for NC State last year, hitting 27 home runs — a new NCAA record for most home runs by a freshman. He also batted .362 and drove in 74 runs to help the Wolfpack to a 36-21 overall record, including a 14-15 mark in ACC action. For his efforts, he was named ACC Freshman of the Year and was a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist.
White is just yet another reason why so many people have picked the LSU Tigers to win the national title this year in college baseball.
