During a FloridaLSU football game, the university issued an alert for possible shots fired on campus. The main LSU Twitter account sent the alert.

“Officers investigating report of shots fired near the Law Center,” the tweet read. “Avoid the area.”

The university provided a subsequent update about 45 minutes after the initial alert was sent out. People in the area are still advised to avoid the Law Center.

“LSUPD is still investigating the report of shots fired near the law center,” the second alert read. “There is no current threat to campus. Please continue to avoid the area and monitor emergency texts and emails for additional updates.”

Tensions were high in Baton Rouge prior to Saturday night’s game, which pitted No. 3 LSU against Florida, a recent rival of sorts. The two teams were involved in some extracurricular activities in the pre-game warmups.

Not once, but twice, the two teams got into a scuffle in warmups, about an hour and a half before kickoff. There was some confusion, too.

Officials threw a flag, attempting to break up the fracas. But it was reported that the officials had assessed both teams an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. That would have meant any subsequent unsportsmanlike conduct penalties would have resulted in an ejection.

The LSU press box received clarification early in the game that the teams had not been penalized, as reported. So there was no such automatic ejection potential. In any case, the contest was clearly going to be heated.

LSU linebacker Whit Weeks ejected

LSU linebacker Whit Weeks was ejected from the game against Florida for targeting. Officials made the ruling on the opening series of the game for the Gators.

Weeks was running toward a tackle when he appeared to lower his helmet into the tackle. His helmet caught Florida receiver Vernell Brown III right under the chin.

After reviewing the play, officials determined that it was, in fact, targeting. Whit Weeks will have to miss the rest of the game as a result. You can view the hit in question here.
