In 2018 Coleman committed to LSU early as a high school prospect ranked the No. 2 left-handed pitcher in Texas by Perfect Game. Also named to the NCAA Eugene Regional All-Tournament Team after securing a win against Oregon in a crucial elimination game.

As a sophomore Coleman suffered a season-ending arm injury that required Tommy John surgery after just three relief appearances on the mound. Bouncing back the next season in 2023 by starting in four of his eight game appearances and playing a role in LSU’s national championship season. Ending the season with an 1-2 record, a 7.07 ERA in 14.0 innings with 21 strikeouts and 16 walks. Also selected with the No. 490 overall pick in the 16th round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

LSU transfer portal activity at pitcher

Along with Coleman, pitchers Cam Johnson, Nick Bronzini, and Samuel Dutton have also entered the transfer portal so far this offseason for LSU. But despite losing some depth in the bullpen, head coach Jay Johnson has done an excellent job of securing commitments from pitchers out of the transfer portal as well.

Wofford transfer pitchers Zac Cowan, Camden Wicker both committed to LSU after being the Terriers’ two aces last season. With Cowan earning First-Team All-Southern Conference after going 10-2 on the mound last season with a 3.35 ERA and Wicker having an impressive true freshman season where he was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team.

Former Indiana State pitcher Luke Hayden also committed to the Tigers following a 7-2 on the mound last season for the Sycamores with a 3.81 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched.
