LSU pitcher Justin Loer entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Friday night, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. He struck out 30 batters in 24.1 innings of work this year. Loer also figures to be a prospect in the MLB Draft down the road. It’s important to note that Loer has a do not contact tag beside his name in the portal.

Before coming to LSU, Loer spent time with the Xavier Musketeers, where he was a key piece out of their bullpen. He earned All-Big East second team honors in 2023. The 6-foot-5 lefty pitched in 29 games with Xavier, throwing in 57 innings. Loer finished that year with a 1.89 ERA, .182 batting average against him, 63 strikeouts, to go along with his 6-2 overall record.

LSU had a pretty good season this year, falling to UNC in the Chapel Hill Regional. They lost 4-3 in 10 innings after UNC second baseman Alex Madera lined the go-ahead single to put away the Tigers. Once the season had ended, LSU head coach Jay Johnson took some time to discuss how proud of the team he was in his team’s official press release.

“We held the national championship trophy last year,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “I’m equally proud of my team and our program today as I was that day. Where we were in the middle of SEC play to right now epitomizes the character of this team. It is one of the most gratifying coaching years of my entire life. I love these guys. The achievement, the accomplishment – that’s obviously what we’re here to do. I have a broken heart just simply because I wanted to go to practice on Wednesday.”

The Tigers finished 43-23 overall and 13-17 in the SEC, just a year after bringing home the national championship in the 2023 campaign. One of their biggest wins of the season came in a 6-1 victory over the Florida Gators. LSU right hander Luke Holman limited the Gators to just one run on one hit in six innings with three walks and 13 strikeouts, passing his former career-high of 12 strikeouts that he threw against Texas on March 1st.
