LSU third baseman Tommy White was the subject of discussion on social media Saturday night after showing off his signature home run celebration. Luckily, the new move was explained after routing Kentucky 14-0 in game one of the Baton Rouge Super Regional.

“It’s called hitting the Tommy. Tommy brought it from where he came from. When he sits there and kind of leans back, sinks in his heels and crosses his arms,” LSU first baseman Tre’ Morgan said. “It’s obviously kind of toward our team, and it definitely fires us up.”

White, a product of IMG Academy, was previously at NC State before transferring to LSU. It didn’t catch on as much with the Wolfpack, but has been entirely embraced by the entire Tigers dugout. After hitting a two-run bomb in the third inning against Kentucky on Saturday night, the celebration was displayed on a national stage as the entire team hit ‘the Tommy’ as he rounded the bases.

White’s home run was only the start of the damage LSU would do to Kentucky’s pitching staff. Leading 4-0 after the third inning, the Tigers would pile one run on in the fourth, six more runs in the fifth, another in the sixth and two more in the seventh for good measure. LSU would hit six home runs on the night, including two a piece from Morgan and White.

Morgan would lead the way going 4-for-5 at the plate with two homers, three RBIs and was responsible for three runs. White went 3-for-5 white a pair of homers to go with three runs scored as well.

Kentucky started Zack Lee on the mound, whose arm was responsible for most of the runs LSU piled up early. He was taken out after four innings where he allowed nine hits including five home runs, six earned runs (nine total) but was still able to strike out six Tigers.

Meanwhile, six of Kentucky’s batters went hitless on the night thanks to the talented arm of ace Paul Skenes. He allowed only one UK batter to reach third base the entire game, and ended the matchup striking out nine batters faced in 7.2 innings despite allowing four hits and one walk.

A win during game two would punch LSU’s ticket to Omaha for the first time since 2017. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET live on ESPN2.
