Whit Weeks injury update: Frank Wilson reveals status vs. Alabama, practice plan

LSU LB Whit Weeks hasn’t played in nearly a month now in dealing with a bone bruise on his ankle. The Tigers, though, are going into this week hoping that he can return in time to play in Tuscaloosa on Saturday night.
Frank Wilson, the interim head coach at LSU, updated Weeks’ status during his press conference on Monday. He deemed the junior linebacker as questionable still, with the team going to try to ramp him up in practice this week to see if he’d be able to handle playing this weekend against No. 4 Alabama.
“Yeah, so, Whit would be questionable as well,” said Wilson.
“Yeah, we’ll get him out there – I’m sorry, we’ll get him out there tomorrow to see what he can do and kind of measure it. And, we’ll kind of build it as the week goes on based on his pain tolerance.”
Weeks has missed three games in total this season, missing essentially all of one for a targeting call and now the past two with this injury that has had him in a walking booth. He, coming out of their first bye week, would be sidelined for losses to both Vanderbilt and Texas A&M in their final two games of October. Now, after another bye week, Weeks is still uncertain to play in their first outing of November.

Soon after taking the job as interim last week, Wilson had said Weeks “had an evaluation that’s trending” and that their team “got positive news on him” while he was on during the SEC Teleconference on Wednesday. Still, he has yet to practice despite some of that optimism, with the Tigers waiting to see if he can return in time to play against ‘Bama this weekend.
In his five full appearances this fall, Weeks has remained one of the most productive defenders for LSU. He has posted 26 tackles in total, which still has him in sixth on their defense, along with a sack and a fumble recovery, which is one of just two recovered this season by the unit. That’s after proving himself to be one of the nation’s top linebackers a season ago, with this year not matching that to this point because of those absences in nearly half of their games this fall.
Wilson could be set to make his return for the Tigers come Saturday against the Crimson Tide. However, that won’t be better known until he practices in the coming days, with the next-best update likely to come on Wednesday night at the initial release of the SEC Availability Report.
