Why stock is being bought for LSU under Brian Kelly

Plenty of people are high on LSU heading into 2023 due to what they accomplished in 2022. On3’s JD PicKell is one of those people as he fully expects success for the Tigers in Baton Rouge heading into the next few seasons of Brian Kelly’s tenure.

PicKell explained his reasoning for buying stock in LSU on a recent edition of ‘The Hard Count’. He said that the price is worth paying for the value with the Tigers, especially considering the program’s track record with head coaches winning national titles.

“I’m going to go ahead and invest in LSU. Because, for LSU, the stock is probably still pretty expensive. I mean Brian Kelly got them to an SEC title game in his first year as the head coach,” PicKell said. “But here’s where I fall with LSU. History is a phenomenal teacher. History has a funny way of repeating itself. And if that’s the case? If history is our teacher here with LSU? I’m trusting the head coach at LSU to win a national title. I mean the coaches before Brian Kelly have done that.”

However, the successes of coaches like Les Miles, Nick Saban, and Ed Orgeron isn’t the only reason that PicKell believes in Kelly. He has a resume of his own and, considering what’s available to him from the program and in the state, he believes that, overall, Kelly will have everything that he’ll need to reach that mountaintop in the near future.

“To be real, Brian Kelly’s resume speaks for itself,” said PicKell. “He has won everywhere he has been. He has proven that he can and will recruit as LSU took to the trail a season ago in 2023 and got a phenomenal class together.”

“Like, Brian Kelly, if he’s able to put a fence around the state of Louisiana? And get his culture in place at LSU? That thing is going to hum pretty quickly,” PicKell continued. “Like, you’ve already seen it work in his first year there. I’m telling you. Long term? I fully expect them to win a national title, a national championship.”

LSU went 10-4 during Kelly’s first season down south in Death Valley. Of their 10 wins, six came in the SEC with two coming against Top-10 teams in Ole Miss and Alabama. Then, of their four losses, two came to Top-10 teams in Tennessee and Georgia. Another came from a heroic final special teams play from Florida State in the first game of the year.

When you consider all things, PicKell believes the foundation that was laid last season means that it will only be a matter of time for LSU to win a national title. He isn’t certain of when, which no one is, but he recommended that their stock be purchased in the time frame of the next five years.

“With Brian Kelly? His track record, how he’s going to recruit, how they’re going to do things, the history at LSU? The resources, the talent they’re surrounded by in the state of Louisiana? It is not a matter of if in my mind. It is a matter of when for Brian Kelly winning a national title,” PicKell stated.

When does that happen? I don’t know,” said PicKell. “But I have a very difficult time believing that he doesn’t get it done at some point in time for LSU. So, for that reason, I’m probably paying a pretty penny for this but I’m going to go ahead and make sure I buy stock in LSU over the next five years.”
