Carson Beck‘s Miami debut went off without a hitch as the Hurricanes toppled a top-10 Notre Dame team 27-24 at home during Week 1. Beck didn’t turn the ball over, and silenced many critics along the way.

Tim Tebow praised the Miami transfer for his play during the season opener — his first game back following UCL surgery that kept him out of the College Football Playoff at Georgia last season. Tebow labeled Beck as someone fans should keep an eye on heading into Week 2 against Bethune-Cookman.

“So many people wanted to jump on the bandwagon of criticizing him,” Tebow said on SportsCenter ahead of SEC Nation. “He reminds me a lot more of what he did in 2023 when he was one of the best players in the country. And I also didn’t think he had the worst season last year.

“There were a lot of things that didn’t go right for Georgia and for him to come out against one of the best defenses in the country at Notre Dame … What a great answer for this young man under a lot of criticism, for him to step back up and show what he can do and how good of a player he is.”

Beck finished the game completing 20-of-31 passes for 205 yards and a pair of touchdown passes. Seven different Hurricanes caught a pass, including four different wide receivers as Beck distributed the ball to all of his playmakers against what many believe is an elite defense.

While he had no shortage of weapons to throw at during his time at Georgia, Beck proved to be turnover prone. This rang true specifically during the 2024 season where Beck threw nine interceptions across four games and finished the season tied for the most interceptions (12) in the Southeastern Conference.

Fast forward to his Miami debut — and Beck rose to the occasion against last season’s national runners-up. With games against Bethune-Cookman and South Florida on the horizon for Weeks 2 and 3, Beck has the opportunity to lead the ‘Canes to a fast start to the 2025 season and look good doing it before hosting a likely ranked Florida team during Week 4.

Miami’s Week 2 matchup against Bethune-Cookman is set for 7 p.m. ET and will air live on ACC Extra. There are no betting odds via BetMGM for Saturday’s matchup against the in-state FCS opponent.
