Zechariah Poyser injury update: Miami DB goes straight to locker room after big hit vs. Texas A&M
Miami defensive back Zechariah Poyser suffered an injury against Texas A&M. He ended up heading straight to locker room after big hit against the Aggies during the third quarter.
Losing the sophomore safety would be a big miss for the Hurricanes. On the season, he’s amassed 47 total tackles, five pass deflections, a forced fumble and a sack after spending the first two seasons of his college football career at Jacksonville State.
Poyser played high school football at Wildwood (Wildwood, FL), where he did not have a star-rating as a prospect. That’s according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted algorithm that complies all major recruiting media services.
More on Miami at Texas A&M
A ton of interesting game-inside-the-game matchups across the board are prevalent in College Station. Iincluding Carson Beck vs. the Texas A&M defense.
Beck is likely in his final stretch as a college football player, heading to the NFL once Miami’s run is over. Putting up a solid performance on Saturday would do him a ton of good, both short and long term. In fact, Urban Meyer believes it’s the most important game of Beck’s life.

“I think it’s all Carson Beck,” Meyer said via The Triple Option. “If they handle that atmosphere, if they handle that pass rush… Let me add this about Carson Beck. I think this will be the most important game that this quarterback, Carson Beck, has ever played.
“He’s got to prove to the NFL scouts he can handle — he’s been up and down. The talent is there but I’m telling you. Every NFL scout and GM is watching this game to see if he can really be an NFL quarterback. Because he’s facing an NFL defense.”
Beck has played in a few important games in his time, just not to this level. Two SEC Championships are at the top of the list from his time at Georgia. One resulted in a loss, knocking UGA out of the four-team field in 2023 before leaving the 2024 game in Atlanta due to an injury.
Getting a win is certainly priority No. 1 in Coral Gables. But for Beck, there are some personal stakes on the line as well, at least when you ask Meyer.
