No Sherrone Moore? No problem for interim head coach Biff Poggi and the Michigan Wolverines.

With Poggi in charge once again, No. 21 Michigan held off Nebraska 30-27 Saturday night to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Wolverines won both games coached by Poggi in Moore’s absence (due to Michigan‘s 2023 sign-stealing scandal) and will remain on the hunt for the College Football Playoff heading into Oct. 4’s game against Wisconsin.

In a conversation with CBS SportsJenny Dell postgame, Poggi revealed his hilarious celebration plan following the win. “I’m gonna eat some Häagen-Dazs coffee ice cream with my wife, and smoke a cuban cigar and then probably go to the hospital,” Poggi said.

Transfer running back Justice Haynes was absolutely phenomenal for the Wolverines Saturday afternoon, rushing for 149 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries. His day was highlighted by a 75-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter to make it 17-10 Wolverines.

Nebraska tied the game on a 52-yard Hail Mary thrown by quarterback Dylan Raiola heading into halftime, but Michigan came out of the break and took care of business. After kicker Dominic Zvada drilled a 56-yard field goal to give the Wolverines a three-point lead, running back Jordan Marshall broke loose for a 54-yard rushing score to make it 27-17.

Michigan has now won five consecutive games over Nebraska dating back to the 2018 season. On the flip side of that, the Cornhuskers have now lost a whopping 28 consecutive games against ranked opponents dating back to the 2016 season.

“He’s a great guy, of course,” Underwood said about Poggi during an interview with On3’s JD PicKell earlier this week. “He loves us as if we were his own kids. I really appreciate him stepping up and taking the role for the moment and keeping the same leadership as each coach on our staff.”

With Moore returning to the Michigan sideline in its next game, Poggi will now revert to his position as associate head coach.
