‘The Game’ is here, and the annual showdown between Michigan and Ohio State carries even bigger stakes this year with both vying for a spot in the Big Ten Championship Game and, hopefully, a spot in the College Football Playoff afterward. Naturally, that means both sides are pulling out all the stops, which includes Jim Harbaugh refusing to give injury updates prior to the game.

Both teams are dealing with some significant knocks sustained on Saturday, particularly at running back.

According to a report from Bill Rabinowitz, an Ohio State beat writer for The Columbus Dispatch, Harbaugh said Monday he has “no update” on running backs Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards.

The Blake Corum injury occurred during the team’s game against Illinois on Saturday, while the Donovan Edwards injury kept him out of the contest altogether.

Corum suffered a knee injury in the first half against the Illini but attempted to return in the second half. He appeared to reaggravate the injury and then left the game a second time.

The TV broadcast showed Corum shaking his head on the sideline and favoring his knee.

Donovan Edwards, Blake Corum injury major factors

As noted above, both teams are dealing with some injuries at running back that have plagued the team in recent weeks.

Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams have both been hurt at times this season and the Buckeyes were forced to play without them at various points on Saturday in a win over Maryland.

For Michigan, the Blake Corum injury certainly looms large, and with Edwards’ status also unclear, things could get really dicey for the Wolverines in the ground game. But Corum attempted to reassure fans that he’s fine over the weekend.

“It’s good. My knee is fine – I’ll be fine,” he said, via The Detroit News’ Angelique Chengelis.

Edwards, meanwhile, saw only two carries in a game against Nebraska two weeks ago and was spotted with his hand wrapped following the game. He did not play this weekend against Illinois.

On the season, Corum has logged 1,457 yards and 18 carries on the ground, while Edwards has run for 471 yards and four touchdowns.
