Michigan‘s 30-24 victory over Ohio State marks the third straight victory for the Wolverines over the Buckeyes. As of late, under head coach Jim Harbaugh, Michigan has taken control of the rivalry. But in this year’s matchup, Harbaugh was not on the sideline, and the Wolverines were led to victory by offensive coordinator turned interim head coach Sherrone Moore.

With Ohio State now in the rearview mirror, Michigan can focus on its Big Ten Championship matchup against the Iowa Hawkeyes. But before they do, Harbaugh made a decree to nominate Moore as a Wolverines legend for the job he did coaching the team to victory against the Buckeyes.

“Coach Sherrone Moore called a great game, coached the offensive line, and made the decisions as the head coach,” said Harbaugh. “And I’m not saying that I’m in a position of granting who a Michigan man is or who isn’t, or who a Michigan legend is or is not; [I’m] not the maker of those two lists. But I have nominated people before, and I nominate Sherrone Moore as a Michigan legend.

“The offense made the drives, made the plays, answered the scores, they made the big plays when we needed them. The fouth down calls were impeccable by Sherrone; the dive past that we threw on fouth and one went to Colston, just tremendous.”

Moore was not the only individual Harbaugh nominated. You can see the full list of Wolverines the Michigan headman nominated here.

Breaking down chances Moore becomes a head coach in 2024

Moore is 4-0 as Michigan‘s acting head coach this season as Jim Harbaugh dealt with two separate suspensions throughout the 2023 season. One of those wins — a 30-24 win over Ohio State in The Game — is surely big enough to earn him a head coaching job anywhere in college football, right?

On3’s Andy Staples and The Wolverine’s Clayton Sayfie came together in Ann Arbor to discuss how Moore should go about handling the calls he is bound to get this offseason — and if he should ultimately take any of their offers.

“Jim Harbaugh is back this week, he’s going to be coaching the team on the field during the Big Ten Championship game and then beyond as they go into post the rest of postseason,” Staples said on Monday. “But for Sherrone Moore — obviously, what people saw on Saturday and then in the previous weeks, he’s ready to be the head coach of a big-time college football program right now.

“I don’t know that there’s even a job out there that would be worth looking at when you’re potentially in line to get Michigan.”
