Former Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore was arrested in the immediate aftermath of his firing. It was a tragic turn to end the season for the Michigan program. Now, former head coach Jim Harbaugh has spoken out.

Appearing on the Dan Patrick Show, Harbaugh explained how difficult of a situation it has been. He also shared that he briefly talked to Moore via text message.

“Still don’t have my head wrapped around it,” Jim Harbaugh said. “It’s a tragedy and I’m just praying for all concerned. I love my alma mater, love Michigan, but I love the Chargers too. I’d be doing a disservice if I wasn’t putting all my focus on this game. This is the most important game for us.”

Sherrone Moore was fired on December 10th for cause. That was due to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Later in the day, he would be detained by police after he allegedly broke into a staff member’s home and retrieved knives and scissors, and then used them to threaten to harm himself.

Harbaugh hasn’t spoken to Moore since the incident. He did, however, text him, though he didn’t reveal anything extra about their interaction.

“Early December,” Harbaugh said. “But I have texted him… Just texts [since his arrest]. Yeah.”

Sherrone Moore is now facing multiple charges. That includes home invasion in the third degree, stalking, and breaking and entering. The home invasion charge would be a third degree felony. He has since posted bond.

“It’s a tragedy,” Harbaugh said. “The worst days of his life. Keep it together and take care of your family. That’s the message and getting spiritual guidance is really critical.”

Now, Moore is going to need to focus on his personal life in the near future. Meanwhile, Michigan needs to move on and find a new coach. There have already been numerous rumors, including several big-name head coaches who have been connected to that job. That includes Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, who has since shot down those rumors. Still, the Wolverines are expected to land a major name.

That’s a process that Harbaugh, now in the NFL, won’t have any say in, as he added, “No, I’m not. All focus is on the Dallas Cowboys.”

Joel Klatt claims Michigan coaching search will be impacted by investigation into athletic department

The scandal around the athletic department is real. For analyst Joel Klatt, it could even impact the success of their coaching search.

“Unfortunately for Michigan, and Michigan fans, and the department, this search is now going to coincide with an announced investigation or query into the practices and culture of the athletic department. Not great,” Klatt said.

“You want to find something in terms of culture? I mean, like, isn’t that fairly subjective? Probably. So, a vague investigation or query? Not great. Not great at Michigan. And, of course, they’ve had a lot of different things happen – the sign-stealing, assistant coaches getting in trouble in pretty severe legal cases, now obviously the Sherrone Moore incident that has happened over the last couple of weeks. So, we’ll see what happens at Michigan.”
