Rutgers v Michigan
In a move that was widely expected, consensus three-star receiver Tay'shawn Trent of Harper Woods (Mich.) High decommitted from Michigan on Tuesday.

Northville (Mich.) High offensive lineman Jake Merritt received a preferred walk-on offer from Michigan on Monday.

The 6-foot-6 lineman also has offers from FCS Dayton, NAIA Lawrence Tech, FBS Marshall, DII Northern Michigan, DII Northwood.

He also went on a visit to Michigan State and Akron in September. He has not received a scholarship or PWO offer from the Spartans or the Zips.

Jake Merritt would be the 4th PWO pledge in Michigan’s class

Jim Harbaugh currently has 17 commits in his 2022 recruiting class, including five commits in the 2022 On300 rankings.

That does not include three players they currently have committed under PWO offers.

One of the three is Sterling Heights (Mich.) Utica Ford long snapper Evan Boutorwick. Boutorwick is considered a five-star long snapper by Kohl’s Professional Camp, the top evaluative system for specialists in the country.

‘Boutorwick checks off every box a coach could ever want in their snapper. He has a great frame at (6-foot-4) and 230 pounds but also is extremely athletic for his size,” Kohl’s Professional Camp’s report on Boutorwick reads. “Boutorwick is arguably the best all-around prospect in the country and will have a chance to make an immediate impact at the University of Michigan.”

Grosse Pointe (Mich.) Grosse Point South defensive end Joey Klunder chose his PWO offer from the Wolverines over full scholarships offers to schools such as Air Force, Army, Columbia and Penn.

Klunder is the teammate of Michigan’s top recruit in the class: four-star cornerback Will Johnson. Johnson is the No. 48 prospect in the On300.

Defensive back Shomari Stone II out of Washington (D.C.) St. John’s has also accepted a PWO offer to Michigan. He is the son of NBC Washington reporter and Michigan alum Shomari Stone.

Jake Merritt has the opportunity to join these three as PWO for the Wolverines.
