Michigan has extended an offer to DeSoto (Texas) four-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II.

Cook is the No. 56 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

That makes him the 11th-best wideout in the class and ninth-best player from the state of Texas.

But he wants more than that.

โ€œI want that five-star ranking and being the No. 1 ranked receiver in the nation,โ€ Cook told Inside Texas. โ€œThatโ€™s really what I want. Thatโ€™s why I work so hard, making all these plays. I feel like Iโ€™m the best in my class. Iโ€™m going to show it every chance I get.โ€ย

Cook has an On3 NIL Valuation of $59,000, which currently ranks 36th among high school football players. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athleteโ€™s value at a certain moment in time.

He has already released a top-seven of Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Texas and Texas A&M.

The Wolverines have five commits in the 2023 cycle, including Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln four-star linebacker Raylen Wilson, Millbrook (N.Y.) Milton Academy four-star tight end Andrew Rappleyea and Dexter (Mich.) three-star running back Cole Cabana.
