2024 ATH PJ Woodland decommits from Mississippi State

Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove three-star athlete PJ Woodland has decommitted from Mississippi State.
He was committed to the Bulldogs since June 20, when he pledged to the in-state program over LSU. He also held offers from the likes of Auburn, Florida State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M.
Woodland is the No. 542 overall prospect and No. 19 ATH in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 16 player in Mississippi.
The 5-foot-11, 155-pounder has previously taken visits to Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas. LSU’s cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples and Woodland built a relationship throughout his recruitment. Steeples had previously made a trip to evaluate Woodland in person.
“He basically just wanted to see me work in person because he seen me work from film, but not in person,” Woodland told The Bengal Tiger back in May. “He’s a great coach, has NFL experience as well. He’s a really cool person in general.”

Back in June, Texas received an official visit in the lead-up to his commitment to Mississippi State. He took an unofficial to Austin at the end of March.
“I went to Texas and it was pretty good,” Woodland told On’s Sam Speigelman in April. “I met with Coach Bo (Davis). It was pretty good and we chopped it up a little bit. I like Texas. It’s different … and really different from Mississippi.”
Woodland does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
