4-star linebacker Asa Newsom set to visit Missouri this weekend

Waverly (Iowa) Waverly-Shell-Rock linebacker Asa Newsom has become one of Missouri‘s priority targets in the 2023 class, and he will visit the Tigers this weekend for their junior day event.
Newsom is the No. 423 prospect in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 42 linebacker and the No. 5 prospect in Iowa.
On3’s own rankings are substantially higher on him though, ranking him as the country’s No. 122 prospect, No. 11 linebacker and No. 3 player in the Hawkeye State.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder currently holds five offers: Missouri, Iowa, Kansas State, South Dakota and Nebraska.

He was a regular visitor to Iowa games this fall, and he also made trips to Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Notre Dame.
Asa Newsom did a little bit of everything this season for Waverly-Shell Rock, including playing linebacker for the first time since eighth grade. That is the position each of the five schools has recruited him at, and he excelled as a junior. In 12 games, he totaled 54 tackles, including 17 tackles for loss, as well as seven sacks. On offense, he rushed for 690 yards and six touchdowns while also catching nine passes for 63 yards in Shell Rock’s run-heavy system.
Missouri currently has two prospects committed for the 2023 class: four-star tight end Brett Norfleet and three-star EDGE Jahkai Lang.
