Missouri guard Jayden Stone will miss three to four weeks due to a hand injury, per CBS Sports‘ Jon Rothstein. Stone transferred to Missouri from West Virginia this past offseason.

He’s had a solid debut campaign thus far with the Tigers. Stone is averaging 13.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 63% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc. Stone has scored double figures in all six of Missouri’s games this season.

The sixth-year guard is no stranger to injury. Stone missed all of the 2024-25 season at WVU after landing on his head at a preseason practice. He suffered a concussion and a spinal injury. He had three seizures as a result of the fall.

“I didn’t know that I was going to be on another team because I had the freak injury, and I didn’t know whether I was going to be able to play again because I had lost movement in the left side of my body for about three weeks,” Stone said. “I just didn’t know what the future was going to hold as I was recovering, playing a little bit more in practice.

“The West Virginia staff was brilliant in getting me back. I didn’t really want to leave, but obviously, the new coaching staff and folks had to come, and I was just like, I’m probably going to have to go back home. I’m not good enough to play in the U.S., especially with what happened to my body.”

Jayden Stone is from Perth, Australia, but played high school basketball in the United States. He began his collegiate career at Grand Canyon, where he spent two seasons. He then transferred to Detroit ahead of the 2023-24 season.

After head coach Darian DeVries left West Virginia last season to take over at Indiana, Stone was left searching for a new home once again. Due to his injury, he was ranked the No. 449 overall player and No. 34 combo guard in On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

Alas, Missouri took a chance on him. Tigers head coach Dennis Gates is happy to have Stone on the team.

“He is a cerebral player,” Gates said of Stone. “He plays on both sides of the basketball. He’s able to rebound, he’s able to catch and shoot, he’s able to get assists.”

Missouri will square off against South Carolina State tonight at 7 p.m. CT. The game will air live on SEC Network+.
