Luther Burden injury update: Status revealed for Week 8 matchup

Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III is expected to return to practice this week and play against Auburn on Saturday, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Burden left Missouri’s 45-3 win over Massachusetts in the third quarter with an apparent shoulder injury.
Before leaving the game on Saturday, Burden recorded five catches for 59 yards. Burden wasn’t only a threat out wide. He also recorded two carries for 68 yards and a touchdown.
It was a nice bounce-back game for Burden and his fellow Tigers, who suffered a 41-10 blowout loss against Texas A&M in Week 6. Luther Burden III was one of the few bright spots for Missouri in the loss, notching seven receptions for 82 yards.
Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz was happy with his team’s response to the loss.
“Proud of our football team today,” Drinkwitz said after the team’s win over UMass. “I talked all week about responding, and there was a lot of different ways that this could have gone. They leaned into each other, the staff leaned into the players, and they fought back and responded the right way today.
“Whether it was running the football, whether it was throwing the ball, whether it was converting third downs, whether it’s the defense forcing takeaways, I thought they really played team football today, and proud of them for that.”

Burden was far from the only Tiger who had a stellar showing Saturday. In the win, wide receiver Joshua Manning hauled in two receptions for a team-high 68 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, running back Marcus Caroll was unstoppable, notching 91 rushing yards and three scores on 15 carries. Mizzou quarterback Brady Cook completed 14-of-19 passes against the Minutemen for 219 yards and two TDs without throwing an interception.
Drinkwitz believes the win could be a boost to the team’s confidence.
“I think your confidence comes from your preparation and and then your performance when you execute,” Drinkwitz said. “There was a lot of really good executed plays today, and I think guys made plays within the scheme. So hopefully it’s something we can build on.”
