Missouri is in the market for a new pitching coach.

Mitch Plassmeyer, who just wrapped up his first season in the job, is leaving to become a minor league pitching coordinator with the Baltimore Orioles, he announced Monday. He arrived in Columbia in 2021 as the director of player development after three years as an instructor in St. Louis.

“Excited to share I’ll be joining the @Orioles as an MiLB Pitching Coordinator,” Plassmeyer tweeted. “Can’t wait to get started up with the incredible group in @OsPlayerDev! Go O’s!”

Plassmeyer played college ball at Kansas State before transferring to junior college and eventually finishing his career at Bradley in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Missouri went 28-23 overall in 2022 and 10-20 in SEC action. The Tigers missed out on the SEC Tournament as a result.

SEC shakes up baseball tournament bracket due to weather

The SEC had to drastically change its schedule for the conference baseball tournament this weekend in Hoover, Alabama.

Two games scheduled for Wednesday — Florida vs. Texas A&M and Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt — had to be postponed to Thursday. Now, the Gators and Aggies will square off Thursday at 9:30 a.m. CT and the Volunteers will take on the Commodores 30 minutes after that game ends.

All told, four games are slated to be on tap Thursday thanks to the shake-up. But there could be more changes on the way if the weather forecast holds.

Delays have become a major storyline of the SEC Tournament after lengthy delays pushed things back into the late hours of Tuesday night — and even into Wednesday morning. Weather was moving into the area as Alabama and Arkansas faced off in the double elimination round Wednesday night. The Crimson Tide held on for its second win of the tournament and are scheduled to play on Friday.
