Missouri quarterback Sam Horn was ruled out for the rest of the season, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Horn, who fractured his tibia in the season opener, underwent surgery and will be shut down for 2025.

“Sources: Missouri QB/LA Dodgers pitcher Sam Horn underwent successful surgery this morning in Columbia, Missouri, to repair a fractured tibia in his right leg,” Thamel wrote on Twitter/X. “While doctors anticipate a complete recovery for Horn, he’ll be sidelined for the rest of the 2025 football season. Horn was injured in Missouri’s season opening game against Central Arkansas on August 28. He’d been in a quarterback battle with Beau Pribula and was slated to split snaps in the opener. He’s a 17th round MLB pick of the Dodgers.”

Initially, Horn was ruled out indefinitely pending his MRI results at the end of August. Now it’s official that his football season is done.

Horn took his first snap of the game with 5:19 remaining in the first half and was tackled low by Central Arkansas DB Dude Person following a six-yard run. He attempted to walk after the tackle, but collapsed to the turf and had to be assisted off the field by team personnel.

Quarterback Beau Pribula stepped up in a big way following the Horn injury. He made a great first impression on Missouri fans, as he completed 23-of-28 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns. He also totaled 65 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. Pribula followed it up with 334 yards passing and three touchdowns in a 42-31 Week 2 win over Kansas.

It remains to be seen what will be made of Horn in the future. He was also drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2025 MLB Draft in the 17th round. While pitching for Missouri in 2023 and ‘25, Horn appeared in seven games, starting five, and had a 1-1 record. He had an ERA of 3.00 over 15 innings, surrendering 10 hits, five earned runs, two home runs, 11 walks and had 20 strikeouts.

As far as football is concerned, Horn’s appeared in five games since 2022 with the Tigers. He was three-of-eight passing for 54 yards one, one touchdown and one interception.

Missouri football will be back in action Saturday at home against Louisiana. The game is set for a 4:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
