2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships: Nebraska's Caleb Smith stuns Lehigh's Luke Stanich

No. 15 seed Caleb Smith (Nebraska) threw rankings out the window when he upset No. 2 Luke Stanich (Lehigh) to advance to Friday morning’s quarterfinals.
After winning in overtime over Michigan‘s Michael DeAugustino earlier in the day, Smith had more on his quest for an NCAA title. It took overtime again and it was the same score, 4-1, as Smith upset Stanich.
Coming up, Smith will take on familiar foe, No. 10 Eric Barnett (Wisconsin), in the next round. The winner becomes an All-American.
At this rate, and based on how the wrestling world knows 125 pounds this year, anything can happen. The winner of Smith and Barnett will take on Iowa‘s Drake Ayala or Oklahoma State Troy Spratley in Friday night’s semifinals.
