Bay City (Texas) four-star defensive lineman Carlon Jones has decommitted from Nebraska, he announced on Tuesday.

He was pledged to the Cornhuskers since June 29.

Jones is the No. 365 overall prospect and No. 35 DL in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 58 player in Texas.

“Well, God has changed my pathway. I appreciate all the love the coaches and fans have shown me. Thank y’all for believing in me. I really wanted to be apart of the change in the program, but unfortunately that couldn’t happen. I am announcing my decommitment from the university of Nebraska. Thank y’all for everything, but I believe God does everything for a reason so I’m goin to trust in him. My recruitment is now open,” Jones wrote.

He does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Huskers still have Top-25 recruiting class in 2024 cycle

The decommitment of Jones comes just hours following the commitment of Logan (Iowa) Magnolia four-star offensive lineman Grant Brix, the No. 96 prospect and No. 3 IOL in the 2024 cycle. He pledged to the Cornhuskers over Oklahoma and Kansas State, giving Matt Rhule and Co. their second top-100 pledge in the class.

“In the end, I felt really good about Nebraska,” Brix told On3. “I just stayed patient. On different days, I would think more about Nebraska, Oklahoma or Kansas State. I waited until I woke up thinking about the same school every day and that happened a couple of weeks ago with Nebraska.”

Now, Nebraska’s class features 26 commits and ranks 25th in the nation, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking. Headlining the class is Ainsworth (Neb.) four-star tight end Carter Nelson, the No. 58 recruit, No. 6 TE and top-ranked player in Nebraska.

“I finally saw how they are turning it around there and don’t have any doubts about that,” Nelson told On3 about the in-state program upon his commitment. “I also bonded with the other commits really well and it’s my home state. It’s where my family is from.”

A trio of teammates follow Nelson as other top pledges close to Lincoln. Bellevue West four-star wide receiver Dae’vonn Hall and three-star WR Isaiah McMorris both committed on June 23, following their quarterback, three-star Daniel Kaelin — the No. 37 signal-caller in the cycle.

Other blue-chip commits for Nebraska include: Waipahu (Hi.) four-star IOL Preston Taumua, Altair (Texas) Rice Consolidated four-star safety Roger Gradney and DeSoto (Texas) four-star cornerback Mario Buford.
