James Brown, one of the top big men in the class of 2024, has committed to North Carolina.

The 6-foot-9, 210-pound center out of Chicago (IL) St. Rita’s chose the Tar Heels over Michigan State, Illinois, Notre Dame, and Missouri. He also received offers from Duke, Iowa, Wisconsin, Howard, Eastern Michigan, and others.

Brown is the third player to commit to Hubert Davis in the class of 2024, joining elite point guard Elliot Cadeau (No. 10) and four-star shooting guard Drake Powell (No. 51). The Tar Heels currently have the No. 1 class in the country for 2024.

According to the On3 Consensus, Brown ranks as the No. 28 overall prospect in the country. The On3 Consensus is the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3).

Brown on his commitment to UNC

“Ultimately I chose North Carolina because of the relationship that I was able to build with Coach (Hubert) Davis and Coach (Sean) May,” Brown said to On3. “After watching many North Carolina games this season and last season, and seeing the way Coach Davis displays his emotions and puts it all out there for his players is something that really resonated with me.”

What type of player is UNC getting in James Brown, in his own words?

“North Carolina is getting a high character, high integrity, passionate player looking to contribute as much as possible to help North Carolina continue its historic reputation.”

Brown has a message for Tar Heel fans.

“I’m extremely excited to become a Tar Heel and step foot in Chapel Hill…Tar Heel Country let’s ride, JB is coming!!!”
