North Carolina LB Michael Short enters NCAA transfer portal

North Carolina linebacker Michael Short entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He spent the last two years in Chapel Hill.
Short saw some modest playing time in 2024 with the Tar Heels. He finished with 23 total tackles across nine games last season.
As a member of the Class of 2023, Short was a three-star recruit out of Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 32 overall prospect in the state, the No. 123 linebacker in the class and the No. 1,255 overall prospect in the class.

Michael Short enters NCAA transfer portal
Short wasn’t the only linebacker from North Carolina to enter the transfer portal this week. Fellow defender Amare Campbell planned to enter, On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
In two seasons, Campbell logged 90 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, one interception, two pass deflections and one forced fumble. He logged a career high 6.5 sacks this past season.
As a member of the Class of 2023, Campbell was a three-star recruit out of Manassas (Va.) Unity Reed, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 35 overall prospect in the state, the No. 128 linebacker in the class and the No. 1,292 overall prospect in the class.
