Four-Star LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa commits to Notre Dame

Four-star linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa of Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco announced his commitment to Notre Dame Sunday afternoon.
The 6-foot-3, 230 pounder chose the Fighting Irish over USC and Ohio State.
Viliamu-Asa on why he chose Notre Dame
“What really stood out is how I would get the best of both worlds. I didn’t have to compromise my education nor opportunity to play football. At Notre Dame I can do both. But honestly man i couldn’t see myself there, but I could at the two other schools. But I read Hebrews 11:1 which talks about faith as assurance in the things we can’t see. And going to the mountains really solidified my answer because I felt God wanted me to have faith, which required trusting in what I could not see.”
Relationship with coaching staff + their plan for him
“I have a great relationship with the whole Defensive Staff. Coach Freeman too. I’m closest with Freeman and Chad Bowden. But they plan on using me in a way that would allow me to impact the game in different ways. I loved seeing how they would utilize my versatility to put me in positions to do a lot of different things on defense.”
Viliamu-Asa ranks as the No. 109 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 8 linebacker and the No. 13 player in the state of California.
The Golden State linebacker joins coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish’s top 12 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by four-star wide receiver Cam Williams, four-star quarterback CJ Carr, and others.

Personal Life (via On3)
“Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa at Bellflower (California) St. John Bosco played on one of the most star-studded defenses in all of high school football in 2022. Yet, it was Viliamu-Asa that walked away with the highest postseason honors on a defense full of five- and four-star recruits. Viliamu-Asa was named the Southern Section All-CIF Defensive Player of the Year as a junior. He earned the recognition after making big play after big play, including against archrival Santa Ana Mater Dei.”
“In a postseason matchup of California football juggernauts, Viliamu-Asa led the Broncos with 7.5 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks. He also had a key fumble recovery in the Open Division state title game against Serra. Viliamu-Asa finished 2022 with 111 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two fumble and one interception. He missed the 2021 season because of an ACL injury that occurred in Bosco’s final spring game of the 2021 COVID-19 make up season.”
