Marcus Freeman reacts to EA Sports putting him in a sweater vest in college football video game trailer

The second year of the EA Sports College Football video game series is nearly here. With that have been bits and pieces of new information about the game, including that some coaches are going to be in it. That includes Marcus Freeman of Notre Dame.
Some images have already come out of Freeman too. In it, the character looks fairly similar to Freeman himself, except he’s in an outfit that it’s hard to remember seeing him in. That’s a short-sleeved shirt and a sweater vest.
Marcus Freeman recently got a look at himself in a sweater vest that EA Sports put him in for the game. Reacting to it on Golic & Golic on FanDuel Sports Network, he admitted that he had some questions about the choice.
“I did see that,” Marcus Freeman said. “Somebody brought that across my desk, and I had questions. I said, ‘Are they trying to, you know, have me tribute to my former college coach in Coach [Jim] Tressel in that sweater vest?’ Because I don’t know if I’ve ever worn a sweater vest. Well, actually, I do know, I’ve never worn a sweater vest, so maybe they’re trying to hint to me what they think I should wear. But more than anything, I think that was a tribute to Coach Tressel.”

Coaches do have a tendency to become known for their outfit choices. Bill Belichick, for instance, became famous for his old and cutoff sweatshirts. As Freeman noted, one coach comes to everyone’s mind when discussing sweater vests, and that’s his former college coach, Jim Tressel. So, perhaps the developers at EA did have that in mind and couldn’t decide on what else to put the Notre Dame coach in.
“Maybe one day I’ll pull out the sweater vest,” Freeman said. “I wouldn’t put a lot of money on me doing that, but maybe I will.”
The images of Marcus Freeman come from a trailer that EA released to get fans excited about the game. Its release is set for July 10, 2025. Early release is coming a few days earlier, on July 7, 2025. So far, it’s been confirmed that College Football 26 has several new features as well. High school play is returning to Road to Glory, a new score bug, a partnership with Metallica, and, of course, several coaches are in the game. Hopefully, those are all changes that make fans excited for the future of the game.
