Notre Dame might have all its attention on the impending top-10 showdown with Ohio State, but the Fighting Irish are making big moves in the On3 Industry Football Recruiting Rankings.

Marcus Freeman and Co. landed a massive commitment on Tuesday night from elite four-star offensive tackle Guerby Lambert, the nation’s No. 4 player at his position. With Lambert in the fold, Notre Dame jumps from No. 14 all the way to No. 8 in the class rankings, leapfrogging former head coach Brian Kelly and LSU in the process.

Lambert ranks as the No. 54 overall prospect and No. 4 offensive tackle in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3, however, rates him slightly higher, according to the Industry Comparison. In the recently updated On300 rankings, he checks in as the country’s No. 28 overall prospect — a projected five-star recruit by the end of the recruiting cycle.

He joins Glen Elyn (Ill.) four-star wideout Cam Williams and Saline (Mich.) four-star quarterback CJ Carr as top-50 commits for the Fighting Irish class. In total, Notre Dame holds commitments from 14 blue-chip prospects, putting them among the country’s elite programs in that regard.

Fighting Irish add a fourth offensive line commit this cycle

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound mauler chose the Fighting Irish over Ohio State, Boston College and Harvard.

Lambert initially planned to commit this summer, but held off until now. The Fighting Irish had been atop his recruitment since his official visit in June.

“The coaches, Coach (Marcus) Freeman and Coach (Joe) Rudolph, they’re amazing people and just the whole coaching staff in general,” Lambert told On3’s Chad Simmons in July. “Their players as well. When I went there, they were a group of players I could see myself around. And obviously, they have great academics there and amazing football.”

The elite offensive tackle also already has a connection in South Bend. Former Catholic Memorial teammate Boubacar Traore is an incoming freshman at Notre Dame and was a four-star defensive line prospect in the 2023 cycle.

The Fighting Irish now have 23 total commitments this cycle, with 11 projected to play on the offensive side of the ball and the other 12 slated to play offense. Should Lambert as one of the 32 five-stars in the final On300 rankings, it would mark the second straight year Notre Dame has signed a five-star offensive tackle after landing Charles Jagusah in 2023.
