Notre Dame has one of the more classic looks in all of college football. However, ahead of this season, the Fighting Irish have released a new one that will eventually have a spot in all athletics. First, the football program got its remake.

On Thursday, Notre Dame announced the unveiling of new sports-specific leprechaun logos across its athletic department. That began today with the one for football, with the leprechaun toting the ball being the logo’s look. Gear with the logo is already available for sale from up in South Bend.

“The University of Notre Dame Athletics Department has unveiled the first in a series of sports-specific leprechaun marks. As the 2025 Notre Dame Football season begins later this month, the athletic department has released the Football Leprechaun mark that will be followed by more sport-specific marks representing each unique sport in which the Fighting Irish compete at the varsity level,” this morning’s release from Notre Dame read. “The new mark was designed in-house by Fighting Irish Media, with input from the many around our athletic programs and inspired by photo, fundamentals and running styles from former and current student-athletes.

“There will be more team-specific marks released during the 2025-26 school year and in the future athletic seasons to come. The Notre Dame Football Leprechaun mark will be seen on the Irish sidelines this season and in the future. In partnership with Under Armour, new Fighting Irish athletic attire will feature the leprechaun this season and is available now.”

The leprechaun has been the secondary logo for Notre Dame since its first appearance on November 20th, 1964. Sixty years later, though, the logo is getting this specific refresh across the 26 varsity teams for the Fighting Irish’s athletics.

This comes just over a week before the football season kicks off for No. 6 Notre Dame. The Irish are coming off one of their best years in recent history, in what was year three for Marcus Freeman. Notre Dame went 14-2 overall and finished as the runner-up in the College Football Playoff. Now, with their quarterback competition decided, the Irish are fully looking ahead to their Top 10 opener next weekend at No. 10 Miami on August 31st, which will begin what’s a difficult slate this season for the Fighting Irish.
