Paul Finebaum blasts 'cry babies' Notre Dame, blames them for CFP snub
Paul Finebaum blasted Notre Dame amid the Fighting Irish’s CFP snub this weekend. Notre Dame ended up opting out of a bowl game, despite its 10-2 record.
AD Pete Bevacqua was very adamant in his statement, which came from the program, that it was practically an injustice that Notre Dame was not in this year’s College Football Playoff. Still, that didn’t stop Finebaum from ripping the school.
“They got it right, and the crying from Notre Dame is quite frankly embarrassing,” Finebaum sad on Get Up. “Everything Notre Dame has done since the moment this was announced is really beneath a great institution that should stand for principles. Instead, they cried. They didn’t get their way, and then they said, ‘You know, we’re going home. We’re taking our ball like a five year old on the playground by not going to a bowl game.; Why did they get it right? Because Notre Dame had very little to show on its resume. They’re not in a conference. That’s their own fault. They think they’re too good to be in a conference.
“And had they joined the ACC, which they, by the way, are a member of, in every other sport, they would have played for the ACC championship game, they would be in the playoff today, and they wouldn’t be a bunch of sniveling cry babies, and really, quite frankly, in my opinion, the laughing stock of college football.”

Notre Dame lost its first two games of the season, falling to Miami in Week 1 and Texas A&M in Week 3 by a combined four points. From there, the Irish rattled off 10 straight wins, but headed into conference championship weekend squarely on the CFP bubble at No. 10 in Tuesday’s penultimate rankings.
But, after being idle on Championship Weekend, Notre Dame had the proverbial Playoff rug pulled out from underneath it when the Hurricanes leapfrogged into the No. 10 spot due to the Week 1 head-to-head win, bumping the Irish out of the CFP’s 12-team field on Selection Sunday.
“As a team, we’ve decided to withdraw our name from consideration for a bowl game following the 2025 season,” the program said in a statement. “We appreciate all the support from our families and fans, and we’re hoping to bring the 12th national title to South Bend in 2026.”
