Will Howard weighs in on Ohio State QB battle: 'They've got a lot of potential'

Will Howard finished up his college football career on top as a national champion at the end of last season. With his departure, however, Ohio State is in search of a new starting quarterback.
Ryan Day identified Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz and Tavien St. Clair as the three quarterbacks in contention for the starting job. However, both Sayin and Kienholz appear to be the frontrunners for the job as spring training wraps up.
Howard played alongside both Sayin and Kienholz during his lone season at Ohio State. He got a good look at what both quarterbacks can bring to the table, and revealed his expectations for both in the hunt to take over the job he competed to earn the same time last offseason.
“I’m excited for them. They’ve got a lot of potential, a lot of young guys with a lot of talent,” Howard said on the field. “And you know, those guys are all made up the right qualities. They got the right makeup, they want to be here. And it takes, it takes something to be an Ohio State quarterback, and takes a special, different kind of dude, and all these guys got it.”

With Sayin, Kienholz and St. Clair all looking to claim the title of QB1 in Columbus, they appear to have the backing of their program’s national championship-winning starting quarterback. Ohio State head coach Ryan Day also explained what he wants to see out of his quarterback room during Saturday’s showcase.
“I just want to see them continue to grow and see it carry over from what we’re seeing in practice. You know, when you put them in a game like environment, you want to see how they handle everything that comes with being in a game and managing the game,” Day explained on the field before the start of the scrimmage. “[That includes] taking care of the football, playing well in third down in the red zone and in two minutes drills.”
Fans will want to tune into the Ohio State spring football game live on the Big Ten Network. Even though it’s a non-contact scrimmage, but because after this, the next time fans will be able to see their Buckeyes won’t be until Aug. 30 when they host Texas inside Ohio Stadium. By then, Day will have decided which one of his quarterback prospects will be starting against the Longhorns later this fall.
