During his coach’s show on Monday, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables said the Sooners will “hope” to have WR Keontez Lewis ready for Week 4. Lewis was on the receiving end of a helmet-to-helmet hit against Temple over the weekend.

The hit occurred late in the first half. Lewis remained on the ground after the play and was tended to by athletic training staff on-hand. He eventually walked off on his own power and was taken to the locker room. He was later spotted on the sideline without his helmet, indicating his day was done.

Through three games with the Sooners, Lewis has recorded 15 catches for 181 yards. This is his first season with Oklahoma, and he’s already caught two touchdowns for the Sooners so far in 2025. Lewis spent the first two seasons of his college football career with Wisconsin, before playing with the Southern Illinois Salukis in 2024.

His early-season success has turned Lewis into the third-leading receiver in the Sooners locker room. His 181 yards sit behind TE Jaren Kanak and WR Deion Burks, who have over 200 receiving yards a piece this season.

Those three have been the sure-handed targets for new Sooners QB John Mateer. Mateer has turned himself into the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy after three games this season.

So far, he’s completed 67.6% (71-105) of his passing attempts for 944 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. The Sooners will hope to see him cut back on turnovers as the season progresses. Still, the Sooners are 3-0 in large part to Mateer’s heroics. Lewis has been a pivotal piece to his early season success.

Hopefully for the Sooners he’ll can get back on the field and return to making players for the program sooner rather than later. Next week, Oklahoma will face Auburn in a highly anticipated showdown, and a win would continue their hot streak in 2025.

The biggest storyline coming into the matchup will be former OU quarterback Jackson Arnold returning to Norman to play his old team. Now the quarterback for the Auburn Tigers, fans inside Memorial Stadium will make life as hard as possible for Arnold and his teammates on Saturday.

Kickoff between the Sooners and Tigers sis set for 3:30 p.m. ET and will air live on ABC. Oklahoma is a 6.5-point betting favorite over Auburn at home, according to BetMGM. The over/under is set at 49.5 total points.
