Former McNeese State wide receiver Jer’Michael Carter has committed to Oklahoma via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Carter was the No. 102 wide receiver in On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

He spent two seasons at McNeese State, where he amassed 16 appearances. After a quiet debut campaign, Carter had a breakout sophomore season, tallying 37 catches for 537 yards and three touchdowns.

Jer’Michael Carter played high school football at Kentwood (LA), where he was an unranked prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was a Louisiana Class A All-State Honorable Mention his senior year.

Carter visited Oklahoma on April 25 but didn’t immediately commit to the Sooners. He was also recruited by Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Baylor in the portal.

Carter is the 20th player Oklahoma has added via the transfer portal this offseason. The Sooners have also lost over 35 players to the portal, landing at No. 45 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Tankings.

Oklahoma posted a 6-7 overall record and a 2-6 mark in conference play last season. It was the Sooners’ first season in the SEC, and they struggled. Next season will be head coach Brent Venables’ fourth season at the helm, and he’ll look to return the Sooners to their former glory.

Carter isn’t the only standout wide receiver that Oklahoma has added to its roster this offseason. In December, Oklahoma landed a commitment from transfer wide receiver Javonnie Gibson.

However, earlier this month, Gibson had to undergo surgery for a broken leg. After the Sooners’ spring Crimson Combine event, Brent Venables provided an update on Gibson’s injury.

“He had surgery a couple of days ago,” Venables said. “It got rolled up on in practice, unfortunately. If he just stays on schedule, he’ll be back to start the season and be back with us.”

Gibson transferred to Oklahoma from Arkansas-Pine Bluff this offseason. In the 2024 campaign, he tallied 70 receptions for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns. His 1,215 receiving yards were the fourth-most in the FCS last season.

For his efforts, Gibson was named an FCS All-American Second-Team selection by the Associated Press. Prior to transferring to Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Gibson spent two seasons at Arkansas-Monticello. One of those years was a redshirt season.
