Ashton Lansdell completes spectacular unassisted double play to seal Ole Miss win vs. GCU

The best play of the day to start the 2025 NCAA Softball Tournament came in the last game of the day. And it ended it.
Grand Canyon trailed Ole Miss 7-4 in the top of the seventh inning, down to its last chance in the game. It advanced a runner to third with one out, trying to push one across to apply some more pressure to the Rebels.
Then left fielder Mia Weckel stepped to the plate for the Lopes. She battled through a few pitches, eventually working her way to a 2-2 count.
On the ensuing pitch, Weckel whacked a line drive out toward the third base side. Ole Miss third baseman Ashton Lansdell leaped over and made a sensational catch, recording the second out of the inning.
Two outs, play on, right? Well, not quite.
The umpires called for a review to see if a double play had been turned. As it turns out, Lansdell’s foot caught the bag while the Grand Canyon runner was off the base. A double-play, with the second out recorded at third base.

The Antelopes answered with a run in the top of the sixth but Ole Miss added two more in the bottom of the inning to give itself some breathing room.
