Austin Simmons injury update: Status revealed for Ole Miss QB vs. Arkansas

Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons is expected to be a game-time decision against Arkansas on Saturday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports. Simmons will undergo warmups and the Rebels will make a decision from there.
Simmons is dealing with an ankle injury suffered during last week’s SEC opener against Kentucky. The Rebels QB1 was spotted in a boot throughout the week.
On the injury report, Simmons appeared as ‘probable’ during Wednesday’s initial SEC availability report. On Thursday and Friday, he was omitted from the list. This appeared to be a sign that the redshirt sophomore was trending toward starting on Saturday, though it won’t be set in stone until the moments prior to kickoff.
Losing Simmons would be a massive blow for the Rebels, though the young quarterback has struggled at times to start the 2025 season. So far, he’s completed 60% (33-55) of his passing attempts for 576 yards including three touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s also the team’s third-leading rusher through two games with 15 carries for 61 sack-adjusted yards and another touchdown.
If Simmons is unable to suit up, Ole Miss will likely turn to Trinidad Chambliss. Chambliss, a redshirt senior, has taken snaps with the first-team offense all week during practice.
Chambliss transferred into the Rebels program earlier this offseason after spending the 2024 season playing his college football at Ferris State. He played in 25 games and made 16 starts during his three years at the Division II program. Chambliss led the Bulldogs to their third national title in four years to finish the 2024 season.

In 2024, Chambliss totaled 2,901 yards and 26 touchdowns through the air while rushing for 1,019 and 25 touchdowns on the ground. This puts his total production at just under 4,000 total yards of offense during his final year at Ferris State.
If Ole Miss can take care of Arkansas on Saturday, they’ll be 3-0 heading into Week 4 against Tulane — one of the better Group of Five squads in the country. The Rebels are looking for a fourth 10-plus-win season in five years under head coach Lane Kiffin.
Kickoff between the Rebels and Razorbacks is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPN.
Ole Miss is a 6.5-point betting favorite over Arkansas at home, according to BetMGM. It’s expected to be a high-scoring affair as the over/under is set a 62.5 total points.
