Corey Adams shooting death: Ole Miss releases statement on tragic passing of freshman

The Ole Miss community is currently mourning the loss of freshman edge rusher Corey Adams. Adams was shot and killed in Tennessee late on Saturday night.
In the wake of his tragic shooting death, Ole Miss released a statement on Corey Adams’ passing. The football program both confirmed the earlier reports that he died, while also asking to keep Adams in everyone’s thoughts and prayers.
In the social media post, Ole Miss wrote, “We’re heartbroken by the passing of Corey Adams. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew and love him.” Below that, the program shared a statement on his passing.
“We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee,” the statement read. “While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.”
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported that five people were shot in the incident. The other four are currently listed in non-critical condition. However, Corey Adams was found to be dead on the scene from a gunshot wound when first responders arrived. Now, there is an active homicide investigation into the case.

Corey Adams was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2025. There, he was the 609th-ranked recruit overall in that class, the 57th-ranked edge rusher, and the 21st-ranked player in the state of Louisiana. That came after he had played his high school football at Edna Karr in New Orleans.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on the Corey Adams case
Shortly following the shooting, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on the case. However, they did not announce that it was Corey Adams who died in the statement, choosing to keep the victims’ names private.
“SCSO detectives are investigating a shooting that took place at about 10:14 pm outside a residence on Fern Glade Cove in Cordova. When deputies arrived at the intersection of Forest Hill-Irene and Walnut Grove, they stopped a vehicle, finding an adult male gunshot victim. They provided life-saving measures until Shelby County Fire arrived. Shelby County Fire personnel later pronounced the victim deceased on the scene,” the office wrote.
“Upon arrival at Fern Glade Cove, deputies found multiple shell casings and learned that four adult males arrived by personal vehicles to area hospitals with gunshot wounds. All four victims are listed in non-critical condition. This shooting is an active homicide investigation by SCSO detectives.
