Lane Kiffin takes shot at SEC scheduling over number of Georgia, LSU night games

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin called out the SEC over its scheduling. Following a 45-10 victory against Tulane on Saturday, the Rebels coach was asked his thoughts on a 3:30 p.m. ET kick time for next week’s matchup against No. 3 LSU.
Kiffin made his displeasure over the fact that it wasn’t a night game clear. However, he also claimed not to be surprised, taking a shot at the conference for seemingly favoring the Tigers’ and Georgia‘s home games for the night slate.
“I’m over that. I just know what it’s gonna be,” Kiffin said about the kick time. “I told the commissioners here today if we’re gonna play LSU here it’s gonna be day, and if we’re gonna be going down there and it’s gonna be a night one. So just know what it’s gonna be. It is what it is. I’m sure we’ll be a night at Georgia, too. If you just set it up that way, you won’t be upset when it happens. You won’t start thinking, ‘Maybe it’ll be different this time.'”
Instead, the SEC opted for No. 5 Georgia vs. No. 14 Alabama as the prime night game for next week. That seemed to be where Kiffin’s comments about the Bulldogs were coming from.
It’s understandable why the SEC might have wanted the game between the Crimson Tide and Georgia to be the featured one in the night slate. After all, those two programs have been among the most successful in the conference over the past decade or so and met in the SEC title game multiple times.

However, Kiffin’s frustrations are equally understandable. Ole Miss has certainly looked like one of the top teams in the conference along with LSU and Georgia. Additionally, both the Rebels and Tigers are undefeated while Alabama already has one loss this season.
As Kiffin mentioned, Ole Miss might have the opportunity for another night game this year when it faces Georgia on Oct. 18, but that game is in Athens. An Oct. 25 game against Oklahoma in Norman is another decent candidate for a night game depending on how the Sooners and Rebels look then.
Ole Miss did have a 7 p.m. ET kick time last week against Arkansas, giving them one night game in Oxford so far this season. Kiffin would have liked them to have another, but that’s out of his control. One thing that isn’t is how prepared the Rebels will be for that game, and he’s sure to have them ready to put up a fight.
