It appears as if Ole Miss senior outfielder Ryan Moerman and senior left-handed pitcher Mason Nichols will be back in the fold for the Rebels in this weekends’ Oxford Regional, consisting of No. 2 seed Georgia Tech, No. 3 seed Western Kentucky and No. 4 seed Murray State.

Moerman, who was in right field, collided with center fielder Isaac Humphrey chasing down a ball in the bottom of the second inning of Ole Miss’ SEC Tournament Quarterfinal win over Arkansas last Friday. Moerman missed the remainder of the tournament with a knee injury and a concussion.

Nichols, who has pitched in 50 2/3 innings this season, has been sidelined with an oblique strain since mid-May. His last appearance came on May 17, in which he allowed three hits and three earned runs in 3 2/3 innings pitched against Auburn.

Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco provided a positive update on the senior duo on Monday.

“[Nichols and Moerman] saw Dr. [Kurre] Luber, the team orthopedic [Monday] morning,” Bianco said following Monday’s NCAA Tournament Selection Show. “They’re doing much better. They’re all on anti-inflammatories and doing rehab. I’d be surprised if they all weren’t able to go this weekend.”

Moerman transferred to Ole Miss this season after spending his first three seasons of college baseball at Illinois. As Ole Miss’ starting right fielder, the 2x All-Big Ten selection is hitting for a .275 average with 15 doubles, 11 home runs and 48 RBI this season. Nichols, who has spent all four seasons at Ole Miss, has started 14 games this season for a Rebels. He boasts a 5.51 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings pitched.

The re-addition of these two players is massive for an Ole Miss team hosting a Regional for the first time since 2021. Mike Bianco’s team is currently one of the hottest in all of college baseball, as it has won eight of its last 12 games (seven against NCAA Tournament teams) heading into the NCAA Tournament. The Rebels haven’t been back to the Men’s College World Series since 2022, when it won the entire event as a No. 3 seed.

Regional play will begin on Friday in Oxford, as No. 2 seed Georgia Tech and No. 4 seed Western Kentucky clash at 4:00 PM (ESPN+). No. 1 seed Ole Miss will matchup with No. 4 seed Murray State in the nightcap at 8:00 PM (ESPN+).
