Ole Miss announces devastating injury update on Daeshun Ruffin
Ole Miss confirmed a worst-case scenario on Wednesday. Daeshun Ruffin is out for the year.
Ruffin will have surgery after suffering a knee injury in Tuesday’s win over LSU, the Rebels announced. His season is over.
It’s a tough loss for Ole Miss, which is now down its second-leading scorer the rest of the way. Ruffin averages 12.6 points per game and a team-high 2.3 steals per game this season.
“Daeshun was just hitting his stride and was establishing himself as one of the best point guards in the SEC,” Ole Miss coach Kermit Davis said in a statement. “I feel badly for Daeshun, but I know he will attack rehab with a great maturity and will return stronger than ever next season. Our team has been very resilient all season long, and we expect no difference against a really good Florida team on Saturday.”
In the Rebels’ win over No. 25 LSU on Tuesday, Ruffin had 19 points, three assists and two steals in 20 minutes of action. Ole Miss won the game 76-72 to improve to 12-10 overall and 3-6 in SEC action this season.

More on Daeshun Ruffin, Ole Miss
Ruffin returned to the bench with a brace on his knee and even asked to go him back in. Out of abundance of caution, Davis kept Ruffin on the bench.
Ruffin is just the latest Rebel to go down with an injury. Robert Allen is also out for the season after having knee surgery, leaving Ole Miss without a true point guard for the time being. Jarkel Joiner is due back at some point this year after undergoing back surgery, but Davis hasn’t provided a timetable for a return.
Ole Miss is now getting ready to take on Florida this weekend in Gainesville. That game tips off Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
