Ole Miss has landed a huge pick up out of the transfer portal as Davon Barnes of Sam Houston State has committed to the Rebels.

Barnes shared the news on Twitter on Thursday. He averaged 13.5 points per game last season.

Davon Barnes is headed to Ole Miss after spending one season at Sam Houston State. He helped the Bearkats to a 21-12 record.

He was one of two players to average double figure scoring for Sam Houston State, scoring the 13.5 points per game on 42.1 percent shooting from the field, including a 39.1-mark from 3-point range.

Prior to coming to Sam Houston State, Barnes played at Texas Southern. He led the Tigers in scoring in 2022-23, averaging 13.5 points per game as a sophomore.

He also saw action at Texas Southern as a freshman, averaging 2.1 points per game in 17 games for the Tigers.

Davon Barnes is now joining an Ole Miss team that finished 20-12 last season. The Rebels are entering their second season under head coach Chris Beard.

Seton Hall transfer Dre Davis commits to Ole Miss

Davon Barnes became the second big-time transfer portal addition for Ole Miss in as many days as former Louisville and Seton Hall wing Dre Davis committed to Ole Miss out of the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday, per ESPN.

Davis entered the portal after completing his fourth season at the college level, having split his time between Louisville and Seton Hall. He’s coming off the best season of his career.

As a senior in 2023-24, Davis averaged 15.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. He was likely on the cusp of earning All-Big East honors but narrowly missed out.

But the numbers for Davis made him a coveted option out of the NCAA transfer portal.

He shot 40.9% from beyond the 3-point arc as a junior in 2022-23, then fell to 35.0% on heavier volume as a senior in 2023-24. Both are quite respectable numbers for a shooter with his length.

Davis had to work his way into the starting lineup after coming over from Louisville.

While with the Cardinals he started 40 games in 50 appearances over his first two seasons in college basketball. Davis averaged 7.4 points per game in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Then he transferred to Seton Hall, where he started just one game in 23 appearances as a junior in 2022-23. Davis averaged 9.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game as a junior.

Ole Miss will certainly welcome the addition after coming up just short of the NCAA Tournament in coach Chris Beard‘s first season in charge. The Rebels got off to a tremendous start to the season, winning their first 13 games, all in the non-conference, before finally tripping up.
