The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. And at Oregon, the grass is “damn green.”

That’s according to Ducks head coach Dan Lanning, who, at 39 has turned Oregon into a premier program under his guidance. In a year where coaching vacancies are all over college football — Lanning hasn’t been tied to any hot boards or coaching searches.

“You gotta be able to appreciate what you have, and I appreciate what I have here so much,” Lanning told Pat McAfee on ESPN College GameDay. “This will be my spot. This is where I’m at forever.”

Lanning said last month that he has “zero” interest in leaving Oregon. He’s told him children, “If your dad wins, we’ll be at Oregon.” Until then, Lanning plans on leading the Ducks for the foreseeable future despite some high-profile jobs opening up.

Winning has come in bunches for the Ducks since Lanning took over. Since taking the job in 2022, Lanning has compiled a 44–7 overall record and has never won less than 10 games in a single season during his first three seasons.

This is including a perfect 12-0 regular season in 2024, Oregon’s first in the Big Ten. They went on to win the conference title and be the No. 1 overall seed in the College Football Playoff and while their stay in the postseason didn’t last long, it set the standard moving forward for Oregon under Lanning.

Currently, Lanning has led Oregon to a 9-1 record and has won its last four games. The lone blemish has come to undefeated No. 2 Indiana at home last month, but have a chance to complete another 10-win regular season under Lanning.

The Ducks continue their status as a national brand in college football during Week 13 as not only are they hosting ESPN College GameDay for the second time this season, but they’re set to take on USC in a top-15 matchup that is one of the headlining matchups for the entire weekend.

This matchup could be looked at as one that may decide the fate of both programs. Win and you remain alive, or lose and fall out of playoff contention. The Ducks are ranked No. 7 and with one loss, is in less danger than two-loss No. 15 USC heading into Saturday. However, it’s a must-win game for both programs.

Kickoff between the Ducks and Trojans is set for 3:30 p.m. ET. CBS will air the national broadcast.
