The Oregon Ducks opened the season with a dominant win over FCS Montana State. Now, head coach Dan Lanning is looking to get his Ducks ready for a step up in competition with Oklahoma State from the ranks of the Power Four coming into town.

Health is a challenge that can derail a season quickly for any team. Already, the Ducks are dealing with several injuries. That includes a mixed bag of players who are dealing with different levels of health at this point, early in the season.

Ahead of that Week Two matchup, Dan Lanning broke down Oregon’s team health. He started with Dillon Gresham, a freshman wide receiver, and transfer defensive back Theran Johnson, both of whom missed the season opening win totally.

“Yeah, Dillon’s going to be down for a little bit,” Dan Lanning said. “Precautionary, but he’s not able to go right now. Theran. Theran should be back this week. He was probably in a position where he could have gone and pushed through, but we want to get more practice reps.”

For his part, Gresham is a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024. He was the 176th-ranked recruit and the 30th-ranked wide receiver in that recruiting cycle. He would not appear in any games during the 2024 season and used a redshirt. For now, he’ll have to continue to wait to make his debut.

Then, Johnson is coming from Northwestern as a transfer. He spent four seasons with the Wildcats, including one redshirt season, and by 2024 was an All-Big Ten honorable mention. Last season, in 11 games, he managed to make 53 total tackles, two interceptions, and 10 pass breakups. He came to Oregon with one more season of eligibility, and it appears he’s getting closer to getting back onto the field

The third player who Dan Lanning shared an update on was Kawika Rogers. Unlike the other two, he played against Montana State. However, the right guard was forced to leave the game with an undisclosed injury. Now, Lanning shared that it’s an ankle issue, and his status is up in the air.

“And then Kawika, we’re still figuring that out, where he’s at,” Lanning said. “He’s moving around a bit today. Ankle deal, but I think he could be back on Saturday. May not be.”

Oregon and Oklahoma State are set to kickoff on Saturday, September 6th at 3:30 p.m. EST. After that, the Ducks are ready for Big Ten play with a road trip to Northwestern.
