The Oregon Ducks are set to hire Marshall Malchow as the chief of staff for their football team, according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports. He’s the associate athletic director for football at Texas A&M and he has also worked in the personnel departments at Georgia and Washington.

Malchow was named the associate athletic director at Texas A&M in the spring of 2020. He served as the director of player personnel at Georgia from 2016 to 2020. While at Georgia in 2018, he was named the National Player Personnel Director of the Year by FootballScoop.com.

Before the position with Georgia, he spent two years at the University of Washington serving in the same role.

In 2012, Malchow served on Chris Petersen’s staff at Boise State as the Assistant Director of Player Personnel. Then in 2013, he became the Director of On-campus Recruiting for the Louisville Cardinals.

Malchow’s connection with Dan Lanning

When Malchow was in Athens, Georgia put together multiple top-five recruiting classes, so it’s clear that Dan Lanning believes in his skills enough to bring him aboard his new staff in Eugene. Lanning was the linebackers coach at Georgia during the 2018 season. He was then named the Bulldogs defensive coordinator in February 2019, a position he still holds currently. He’s announced that he’ll coach Georgia in the College Football Playoff, before officially moving to Oregon to work there.

During the few couple of years he spent with Lanning, Malchow must have made a very strong impression. It’s the first head coaching position Lanning has landed and he’s turning to the former Texas A&M staffer to be his chief of staff.

At Oregon, Malchow and the coaching staff will have some of the most outstanding facilities in the country to work with. They already had a $68 million football performance facility, which was one of the nicest in the country.

Oregon will be opening a new 170,000 square foot practice facility in 2024. Few teams in the country will be able to compete with Oregon’s facilities.

However, the Ducks lost one of the biggest de-commitments of the 2022 recruiting class, when their five-star offensive tackle, Kelvin Banks, flipped and signed with the Texas Longhorns during the Early Signing Period. Banks decommitted from the Ducks once their former head coach Mario Cristobal left for the same position with the Miami Hurricanes.

Banks is rated as the No. 1 offensive tackle in America for the 2022 recruiting class, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings.

Oregon will face Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas on Dec. 29. Kickoff is slated for 9:15 p.m. EST from the AlamoDome.
