Now that we’re back in the contact period of the recruiting calendar, we’re seeing more and more head coaches hit the road to let underclass prospects know they’re a priority. One priority recruit in Georgia is On3 Consensus four-star quarterback Dylan Lonergan of Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood.

And to show how much of a top recruit Dylan Lonergan is, his school received a visit Tuesday morning from Penn State head coach James Franklin. Philip Jones, the head coach at Brookwood, shared a photo of Franklin visiting the school on social media Tuesday morning.

Dylan Lonergan is Penn State legacy

There is a family connection to Penn State, too. Dylan Lonergan’s father, Dan Lonergan, was a college player at Penn State. His father has intentionally been involved throughout his son’s recruitment.

“I think it’s important, I went through the process myself a long time ago and I have a bit of an understanding,” his father told On3’s Jeremy Johnson recently. “It’s very different now than it was back in the early 80s. It certainly helps to provide some insight and understand where the coaches are coming from and being able to translate a little with kind of what they’ve said.”

NCAA rules prevent Franklin from doing anything more than bumping into Lonergan while he’s on campus. However, make no mistake, head coaches go out of their way to make it clear to their targets that they’re there to see them when visiting.

Dylan Lonergan, who is 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds, ranks as the No. 87 player overall, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Dylan Lonergan also ranks as the sixth-best quarterback and No. 9 player in Georgia. On3 ranks Lonergan similarly as the ninth-best quarterback and a top-20 player in the Peach State.

Dylan Lonergan has a long list of teams chasing after him, including offers from more than 25-plus schools.

Penn State is one of the schools that has offered him. He has also taken four unofficial visits to North Carolina, three visits to UGA, South Carolina and two visits to both Auburn and Alabama.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists North Carolina as the favorite so far in Dylan Lonergan’s recruitment. The Tar Heels have a 25.4% chance of landing him, followed by UGA and Georgia Tech at 15.4%.

One interesting aspect of Lonergan’s recruitment will be baseball. He plans on being a two-sport target, and he wants to pick a school that will allow him to play both sports.
