Spring practice across the country is over which means the offseason of college football is upon us. While the actual sport will still dominate the headlines, there is plenty of room to have some fun, especially when coaches and players interact with fans on social media.

For South Carolina, there has been a debate around their helmet combinations for the upcoming season. Head coach Shane Beamer made sure quarterback Spencer Rattler and tight end Jaheim Bell got their opinion out there, posting a photo of the two around some helmets.

Both are pointing to a white helmet, with a garnet, old school block ‘C’ as the only artwork. It would be a throwback for South Carolina and could possibly be used in a one-off game during the year.

Rattler transferred from Oklahoma where he is used to having an alternate jersey. While the Sooners has a traditional look within college football, every once in a while, they would break out their Jordan brand jerseys. Now, he is campaigning for something similar to happen in Columbia.

A lot of designs have been thrown out there via Twitter but if Rattler and Bell speak for the South Carolina players, there seems to be a clear leader in the clubhouse.

Spencer Rattler excited about South Carolina quarterback room

Although Rattler is the expected starter for the Gamecocks this fall, he says South Carolina has a lot of talent at quarterback. In his opinion, it may be the best room he’s ever been a part of.

“This is one of the best quarterback rooms I’ve ever been in,” he said. “Great guys, real top-quality guys. We all support each other. All of us have unique qualities to our game. I think we can all learn a little bit from each other.”

Considering Rattler’s quarterback battles with Alabama transfer Jalen HurtsUSC’s new man Caleb Williams, and SMU’s Tanner Mordecai, that statement comes with some weight.

Even with the praise, the room is overall inexperienced. The only one with real game reps besides Rattler is junior Luke Doty. Due to multiple injuries throughout the year, though, even he only played five games last season. If nothing else, Rattler must bring his background from OU to the table to help his teammates grow.

“Having some experience and having some success in college, I feel like I can come in here and I’ve taught these guys a lot and just lead by example,” said Rattler.
