Following a contentious sequence in a Women’s College World Series game, Tennessee has had a coach ejected. Hitting coach Craig Snider was tossed in the top of the fourth inning.

Snider appeared to take issue with a call on a pitch from Texas star Mac Morgan, who was cutting through the Tennessee lineup. He got vocal about the pitch, then came out of the dugout.

Within a minute or so, officials had ejected him. He will have to miss the rest of this contest, though there’s no penalty going forward. The Volunteers will certainly miss him, though. Even the broadcast chimed in on what a loss it was.

“He’s a huge voice for them,” ESPN broadcaster Jessica Mendoza said. “I mean they make adjustments in game just as good as any team.”

Texas took the lead shortly after the ejection, courtesy of a one-run bomb to left field by left fielder Katie Stewart. The solo home run made it 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Prior to that it had been a real pitchers’ duel, which is probably part of the reason Snider was so upset with what he viewed as a questionable call prior to the ejection. Neither team had been able to generate much offense, and errant calls definitely wouldn’t have helped.

Morgan had thrown four complete innings at the time of this writing, allowing only three hits. She had walked one batter and struck out four, getting the ground ball really working in her favor.

Karlyn Pickens had been nearly just as good for Tennessee prior to the home run. She had racked up seven strikeouts and allowed just four hits through the fourth inning.

Ejection aside, Tennessee will have to win to keep its season alive. Texas comes in sporting a one-game advantage, meaning the Longhorns would have to lose twice to be eliminated. The Volunteers are trying to force a second game this afternoon.
