The 2022 season for Texas A&M gets underway in just five days as the Aggies will face Sam Houston State at 11 A.M on Saturday, Sep. 3. The No. 6 ranked Aggies have as much hype as they have had in the Jimbo Fisher era to this point. Although following an 8-4 season, the Aggies have received numerous votes of confidence from national media members as contenders to win the SEC this year. ESPN’s Desmond Howard even picked the Aggies as his team to win the National Championship.

With the first game this week, AggieScoop (Marshall Levenson and Tim Verghese) will give game-by-game predictions of win/loss. At the end we will recap the overall records and where they could get the Aggies in terms of postseason play.

Recap

Overall, I have Texas A&M nearly running the table, finishing the season 11-1 with the only loss coming to Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Tim is nearly identical, adding only a loss to the LSU Tigers in the final game of the season. While I do think the LSU game will be a slugfest, I will give the Aggies the edge only because of the stars on the defensive line. But at that point in the season, who knows what that matchup will be.

Postseason

With an 11-1 record, the Texas A&M would have a chance to end up No. 1 in the SEC West, but with a loss to Alabama, they would likely need the Tide to drop two games in SEC play to avoid a tiebreaker, which would obviously favor Alabama with the head to head win. I don’t see anyone else in the West finishing with only one or two losses. Arkansas, LSU, and Ole Miss have chances to be good teams but they likely drop multiple games in conference play. If the Aggies win the West, they will compete for the SEC championship, which means the College Football Playoff is very likely, and is a certainty with a win.

With a 10-2 record, Texas A&M might be just on the outside of the the College Football Playoff. The Aggies would be in line for the Sugar Bowl or Citrus Bowl at worst. Two SEC teams have made the CFP three times, so if, let’s say Alabama and Georgia, made it again, the Aggies would likely be in line for the Sugar Bowl, a New Years Six bowl.
