Ashton Bethel-Roman jokes about family feud over Texas A&M vs. LSU game

Some SEC rivalries run thicker than blood. On Friday, Texas A&M wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman admitted to trash talking his parents, who both were athletes at LSU.

“The LSU game don’t need to roll around. I do it everyday. I’m talking mess about LSU everyday,” Bethel-Roman said. “I’m throwing the L down in every picture me and my mama take. Yeah, I’m give it to her. I ain’t gonna lie.”

Bethel-Roman’s mother ran track at LSU while his father, Mark Roman, was a star on the gridiron. Roman was a four-year starter in the secondary at LSU, amassing 253 tackles and 10 interceptions during his collegiate career.

While with the Tigers, Roman was named the 1996 SEC Freshman Defensive Player of the Year and was a 1998 All-SEC First-Team selection. The Cincinnati Bengals selected Roman with the No. 34 overall pick in the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft.

Roman played 10 seasons in the NFL, logging 102 career starts. While Ashton Bethel-Roman only made four appearances for the Aggies during his true freshman year last season, he’s hungry to follow in his father’s footsteps and be star on the field.

Of course, he just plans on achieving his dreams in College Station instead of Baton Rouge. Ashton Bethel-Roman still has a while to wait before he can shine against LSU. The Aggies and Tigers don’t square off until Week 9 of the 2025 campaign.

In other words, there will be plenty of time for Bethel-Roman to talk smack to his parents before the game. Now, Bethel-Roman must focus on backing up his words.

He seems to be on the right track. Positive buzz about the former four-star prospect has been leaking out of Texas A&M’s fall camp, with some insiders even projecting him to start out wide for the Aggies this year.

It’d be a massive accomplishment for Bethel-Roman. Texas A&M’s wide receiver room is loaded this season after bringing in transfer standouts KC Concepcion and Mario Craver this offseason.

Not to mention, Bethel-Roman is competing for snaps with Texas A&M’s returning receivers, such as Terry Bussey. Bussey is a former five-star prospect and racked up 216 receiving yards as a true freshman last season.

On Aug. 30, Bethel-Roman and the Aggies will kick off their 2025 season with a showdown against UTSA at 7 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPN.
