Collin Klein addresses being linked to head coaching rumors

Similar to Mike Elko, Texas A&M OC Collin Klein has also seen his name come up to this point of this year’s coaching carousel. But, just like the head coach he works with, the Aggies’ staff is completely uninterested in the topic right now.
Klein addressed his reported candidacy for jobs elsewhere as a head coach while speaking to the media on Monday. He referred to what Elko has said over the last week, with him deeming those thoughts as “a waste of brain space” and “stupidity”.
“Well, I think Coach Elko said it best a week ago, or whenever that was,” said Klein.
However, Klein did appreciate the nod that that represents to their program, staff, and team if their coaches are coming up as candidates in searches around college football. It must mean they’re doing what they need to be doing, and they obviously are with the Aggies still undefeated at 8-0 with everything in front of them as far as the SEC Championship or the College Football Playoff.
“But, again, it’s an honor and it means you’re doing something right. It’s a credit to our players and our entire staff of what we’ve been able to do,” said Klein. “And, like I said, there’s a lot of season left and a lot of big things ahead of us.”
After, along with a one-season stop at Northern Iowa, working his way up the offensive staff at his alma mater at Kansas State, Klein has spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas A&M under Elko. His work has resulted in 34.1 points and 432.6 total yards of offense per game in his time so far with the Aggies. That includes 37.8 points and 459.3 yards per game this fall, having a Top-25 offense in the nation, with them having one of the most balanced units there at A&M.
Again, the Aggies’ coaches continue to deflect any of these rumors or conversations linking any of them elsewhere. Still, that’s just what’s going to continue to happen with the kind of success they’re having this year, and the kind of coaching carousel that the sport is looking at having, at Texas A&M.

Elko doubles down on viral comments on being in major coaching searches
The coaching carousel is in an all-out spin with a month still left in the season considering how many jobs, and premier ones at that, are already open. Aggieland wouldn’t even know it’s happening, though, with how little it’s being thought about by Mike Elko.
Appearing on ‘Bussin’ With The Boys’ on Monday, Elko again addressed his name coming up as a coaching candidate elsewhere besides Texas A&M. He referred back to his viral comment from a week ago, saying there’s no value at all in thinking about that during the season and certainly not with the kind of year that they’re having in College Station.
“Yeah, I had a really other famous quote that came out like a week and a half ago that was on social media about my thoughts on these other jobs and it being a waste of brain space,” said Elko. “I think, no different than we talk to our players. I think it’s really important to focus on what’s in front of you. We have a lot of confidence in what we’re doing here at Texas A&M, what this place can be. And, I just don’t think those conversations are things that are important at all during the season.
“Internally, we addressed the things that we need to, but, like we tell the players to avoid the external noise, I think it’s really important that coaches do the same and that’s how we try to go about it.”
