Jim Schlossnagle provides injury update on Texas A&M pitcher Shane Sdao

Texas A&M punched its ticket into the 2024 Men’s College World Series after defeating Oregon in the College Station Super Regional on Sunday.
While the Aggies’ bats were hot, not everything during the game was a cause for celebration as starting pitcher Shane Sdao left the game early with an apparent left arm injury. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle updated his status postgame.

“Nothing as of now,” Schlossnagle said. “I think he passed some of the physical tests pretty well, but it’s obviously scary. I mean, Sdao is just super competitive, and for him to do that the first couple of pitches of the game were 90-91. I was like, what we got going on here? Then he spit a 94 up there. I was like, okay. Then when he made that motion to call it, I was hoping it was the pitch com thing.
“We’ll see. We’ll get an MRI this week, and hopefully, we’re obviously not going to risk anything. He’s got a bright future ahead of him, so we’ll just have a wait to see.”
The injury occurred during the first inning. Sdao had just let up a two-run home run to Oregon’s Chase Meggers. As Meggers rounded the bases, Schlossnagle and the Aggies’ training staff approached the mound to check out the starting pitcher. He eventually headed to the dugout and was relieved by Brad Rudis.

During his 11-pitch sample in Sunday’s Super Regional final, Sdao let up three straight hits to begin the game before letting up the two-run bomb. He did record a pick-off a first base, however, for his only out of the game. Otherwise, Meggers would have had three RBIs to his credit in the first inning.
Sdao entered the matchup with a 2.61 ERA in 48.1 innings of work. In that time, he’s compiled a 5-1 record with two saves that consisted of him striking out 55 batters compared to allowing just nine walks.
While the injury to Sdao is a bummer for the Aggies, there wasn’t much else to be upset about in College Station over the weekend. They scored 25 total runs during the Super Regional alone en route to sweeping the Ducks in the best of three series.
The Aggies will face a familiar foe in the Florida Gators on Saturday to kick off their MCWS slate.
